Marposs, a global leader in measurement, inspection, and test technologies, has introduced a universal device that makes the calibration and validation of leak testing equipment both simpler and more accurate than offline methods.

Porosity. Cracks. Leaky gaskets and misaligned components – whether it’s a battery for an electric vehicle, a hydrogen fuel cell, or the electronics used in a lifesaving medical device, these are just a few of the potential quality issues that can lead to an unexpected, often costly, or even hazardous pressure drop during operation.

It’s critical, therefore, to avoid these situations, which is why the manufacturing lines that produce these, and countless other electromechanical systems, are equipped with quality control devices that test for potential leakage. These leak testers give manufacturers confidence that their production processes are operating as designed, that the materials and components being used to make the products meet specifications, and that there won’t be any chance of a defect in the field.

The question then becomes: how do those responsible for operating and maintaining leak testers know that their devices are working correctly?

Enter the Tecna Leak Tester Control (LTC) from Marposs. The LTC is an inline instrument that sits between any brand of leak tester and the component being tested. It connects to each using a Staubli brand RBE03 quick-connect T-fitting (provided), making installation easy. Once installed, the LTC lets the operator to quickly verify that the leak tester is functioning as designed.

The unique instrument is equipped with an adjustable needle valve that lets technicians simulate a leak, then verify that the connected test equipment will identify the failure and reject components accordingly. Simulated leaks are enabled or disabled via a button on the LTC’s 3.5" color LCD display, which also shows the test pressure, temperature and relative humidity, actual leak values, and testing parameters being used.

In addition, depending on an instruments full scale, quality control personnel can use the LTC to calibrate and certify most brands of leak test equipment. A USB port and included cable allows users to collect test data for storage to a memory stick. Various LTC models support pressures ranging from 2 bar to 40 bar, as well as vacuum to -900mbar, and flow rates of ±50cm3/min up to ±950cm3/min.
