The New Unison Corporation

During 2009, Unison Corporation is celebrating 50 years in business since its founding in 1959. The company has developed and manufactures over a dozen models of both manual & CNC grinding machines and was one of the pioneers in the field of computer-controlled equipment. In fact, in 1977, Unison was the first company in the world to install a CNC control on a manual grinder with the introduction of our TruFlute Series of equipment at a time when Bill Gates of Microsoft was producing his first personal computer. According to the January 2009 issue of IndustryWeek Magazine, in terms of marking the historic watersheds of civilization, analysts compare the impact of computers on manufacturing with that of mass production.

Unison has stayed at the forefront of the grinding technology curve by focusing the last half century on developing proprietary grinding techniques and custom-made software.  The company is one of the oldest machine tool manufacturers in the USA and began its journey in the field of grinding with the development of the DedTru Grinding Fixture.  A DedTru allows a standard surface grinder to perform centerless grinding and these handy fixtures are still in production today.   When a computer control is added to a DedTru, it becomes a Model 2150 CNC Centerless Grinding System which is used primarily for the production of carbide and steel blanks in the manufacturing of industrial cutting tools, punches and core pins for the mold-making industry.  The Model 2150 offers quick and easy set-up when compared to larger conventional centerless grinders.

Unison has grown by making continuous improvements in all aspects of its grinding technology by setting new standards of performance with our software and robotic loading/unloading mechanisms which are developed based upon each customer’s unique grinding application.  Today, Unison produces a complete line of CNC grinding machines allowing customers to produce true-helix flutes, rotary files, endmills, ID/OD round & non-round profiles as well as medical, dental & industrial burrs which are accurate and economical, part-after-part.  Unison’s experience and manufacturing technology enables it to provide the products and services today’s challenging markets demand.  In addition, Unison has established exclusive arrangements with world-class suppliers such as St. Gobain Abrasives where SGA is the preferred supplier of abrasive products for Unison Grinders and provides Unison’s customers technical support for diamond, CBN and conventional wheels.

Unison’s skills in engineering and manufacturing give the company the depth of experience to also be able to build custom-made, high precision grinding machines for niche markets throughout the world.  Our tag line is “Unison = Grinding Solutions” and we have a tradition of personal attention to our customers which is best expressed when we say Unison is always at your service.
