In 2025, Minalex proudly marks its 60th anniversary. A milestone that celebrates six decades of dedication, craftsmanship, and innovation in manufacturing precision miniature aluminum extrusions. Founded in 1965 by Jim Casey and Bob Gilfillan, Minalex has grown from a small operation in New Brunswick, New Jersey, into an industry leader serving aerospace, healthcare, electric vehicles (EVs), solar power, the military, and other industries.
“Our father believed in doing one thing and doing it right,” states Michael Casey, vice president of Minalex. “That focus on quality and precision is the cornerstone of who we are today, and it’s a legacy we’re proud to continue.”
Jim Casey’s vision, technical expertise, and perseverance laid the foundation for the success of Minalex. From its humble beginnings on Fulton Street, the company expanded rapidly, relocating to a larger facility in Whitehouse Station in 1969. Following Jim Gilfillan’s retirement in 1986, Jim’s sons, Michael, and Chris, formally joined the business in the 1980s and 1990s, bringing fresh energy and ensuring that Minalex would remain a family enterprise.
“Minalex is not just a family business in the name – it’s a family in spirit,” comments Chris Casey, vice president. “Our employees are more than co-workers; they are an extension of our family, with many second-and third-generation workers helping to carry forward our shared values of quality, integrity, and innovation.”
A defining achievement came in 2004 when Minalex earned its ISO9001 certification, which is critical for supplying clients in the aerospace market. Two decades later, in March 2024, Minalex reached another milestone with Die #24,000, producing a precision heat exchange component for an aerospace client.
Throughout its history, Minalex has steadfastly committed to its community, supporting local organizations such as the D.A.R.E. program, Readington Little League, and the PBA. The company’s close ties to Hunterdon County reflect its belief in giving back and creating lasting partnerships.
Today, Minalex continues to thrive under the guidance of the Casey family, alongside a dedicated team of skilled employees. The company’s legacy is also a testament to its adaptability, producing custom, high-precision solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers across multiple industries.
As Minalex celebrates its 60th year, the company looks ahead with gratitude for its rich history and optimism for the future. “Even the smallest parts can make the biggest difference,” concludes Michael Casey. “We’re excited to see what the next sixty years will bring.”
