Latest advancements in prosthetic technology

Cleveland, Ohio – Leimkuehler will host a special event for individuals affected by upper limb loss or deficiency at their downtown Cleveland clinic, from 5:30-7:30pm on June 18, 2014. Leimkuehler, serving this relatively small patient population, aims to educate past, present and future patients about the latest advancements in upper limb prosthetic technology.

Many individuals with upper limb loss or deficiency are not aware of the amazing advancements the upper limb prosthetic industry has undergone over recent years. Many more go for years with the same outdated devices, without realizing that many healthcare insurers offer reimbursement for new prostheses every 2 to 5 years. Leimkuehler is committed to educating patients on their prosthetic options to ensure that each and every individual is provided the best possible outcomes.

This patient event will feature i-limb technology, a suite of externally powered upper limb prostheses designed for both partial and full hand loss and deficiency. i-limb ultra revolution and i-limb digits are robotic hands that are operated by the myoelectric signals produced from muscle triggers in a person’s residual limb. The i-limb mimics the functionality of the natural hand and enables amputees to perform many of the daily tasks others take for granted, such as tying a shoe, opening a jar, or even shaking someone’s hand.

The Patient Education Event is open to individuals with upper limb loss and their families. Special guest Jason Koger, a double amputee and i-limb ultra revolution wearer, will be there to talk to patients and answer their questions and concerns. Jason, a 34-year-old father to three young children, lost both of his arms following an ATV accident in 2008. Jason now devotes much of his time helping other amputees through personal visits and motivational speeches across the globe. He has been featured in countless television appearances, most notably CNN, Hawaii 5-0, and a recent Appletm commercial.
