Iscar Low-Helix Drills Improve Process Security In Non-Rotating Applications

Advanced drills from ISCAR can materially improve tool performance and process security in lathe work and other horizontal non-rotating drill applications.  ISCAR’s DR drills feature a very strong low-helix shank hardened to 55 HRc, plus a low-friction HARD TOUCH nickel coating on the flutes to facilitate chip evacuation. 

Stronger Shank, Freer Chip Evacuation
Compared with standard-helix drills, the DR drill’s low-helix design makes for an intrinsically stronger, more rigid drill body because less metal needs to be machined away to create the flutes.  Coated low-helix flutes also create a freer, shorter path for exiting chips, thereby minimizing chip jamming.  

The ISCAR DR drill is designed mainly for lathe work, where the drill is stationary and the hole is
horizontal so chips can exit more freely.  Threaded coolant ports at both the flange and the rear simplify cutting-fluid plumbing on all types of machines.  Coolant flows directly to the cutting zone to reduce heat and friction and flush out chips. 

With due attention to chip evacuation, the ISCAR DR drill also can handle some rotating-tool applications. 

Eleven sizes, when combined with X-axis offsetting, cover the diameter range from .550” to 2.36” inches.  DR drills accommodate ISCAR’s standard square SOMX and SOMT coated carbide inserts, which are now available in the new high-performance grades including the new SUMO TEC IC808 and IC 8080.  All key specifications are laser marked on the shank.
