Covidien officials announce the addition of a new product to its family of Shiley neonatal and pediatric tracheostomy tubes. The new cuffless product will help enhance patient care and safety within the hospital and home care environments.
“This new product portfolio represents an important step forward in the care of young patients dependent on tracheostomy tubes,” states Robert J. White, president, respiratory and monitoring solutions, Covidien. “For more than 40 years, clinicians and patients have trusted the Shiley brand for their tracheostomy needs. We are pleased to offer an expanded range of industry-leading solutions for meeting their needs across hospital and home care environments.”
Shiley portfolio innovations for the cuffless design include:
- An expanded range of tube sizes down to a 2.5mm inner diameter to accommodate the smallest patients – an option that has not previously existed in the Shiley portfolio;
- A soft, clear flange that facilitates easier examination of the underlying skin for infection and eases trach-tube holder insertion; and
- Tubes manufactured with a medical grade PVC, with a citric-based, non-phthalate plasticizer and meet the latest patient safety standards.
The Shiley neonatal and pediatric tracheostomy tubes were recently approved for sale in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
