Precision X-Ray relies on Exothermic Molding’s precision

When Branford, CT-based Precision X-Ray needed a more responsive supplier for the parts that make up their housings, they tapped Exothermic Molding Inc. The company previously used another supplier for their RIM fabrication and sought to achieve a quicker turnaround. When they reviewed the Exothermic website, read the industry press accounts of previous projects, and engaged in a dialog with Jorge Perez, VP and COO, they offered the job to Exothermic.

“We are able to deliver extremely aggressive lead times now – 4 to 6 weeks for mold building and 3 weeks for production; that impressed Precision X-Ray,” indicated Perez.

The job is currently in Exothermic’s CRO process, with all of the specifications and engineering documents under review.

In addition to the quicker turnaround times, Exothemic’s in-house design team helped Precision X-Ray to make design modifications, such as reducing wall thicknesses and adding ribbing for increased strength as well as esthetics. Precision was also attracted to Exothemic’s use of the innovative thermoset resin known as Proxima®. Proxima is a registered trademark of Materia, Inc., and is based on a Nobel Prize winning chemistry with superior properties such as durability and lighter weight, which facilitated the design changes. Finally, Precision X-Ray benefitted from Exothermic Molding’s ability to reduce its costs by spreading out setup costs as a result of batch sizes.
