The USB CNC Automatic Serial Switch Box Controller for CNC machine tools and equipment provides Fadal CNC's with a USB memory interface and pass-through serial network capability. The switch box allows a shop to maintain existing serial networks and DNC systems, while providing on-the-fly access to USB memory.
The switch box allows operators to load, save and DNC files from either a remote PC or a local USB memory device. In the event of a network crash, access to local USB memory guarantees uninterrupted machine production.
The switch-box continuously monitors data transmission on the serial port of a Fadal CNC. While operating in passthrough mode, the switch box passes RS-232 data between the serial port of the machine and a PC. An operator may choose USB mode with the CNC controller keypad. When the switch box receives a request for USB mode, it temporarily disables the serial port and connects a USB memory device to the CNC controller. After completing the USB memory access request, the serial port automatically returns to its normal state without user intervention.
In USB mode, commands are typed into the USB controller via the CNC controller keypad. The USB file information is viewed on the monitor as if it were an integral part of the control. An active help menu displays all of the available commands, eliminating the requirement to memorize USB file interface commands.
All files or user-selected files may be uploaded or downloaded into the CNC's memory, as they are needed. For programs too large to reside on the CNC's internal memory, an internal DNC operation can drip-feed them.
