The Index MS16C, a compact machine aimed at the CAM-driven multi-spindle market, deploys form tool slides, as well as full CNC tool slides plus a backworking spindle to decrease drop times to less than three seconds.

The machine is a stable platform for high-precision work, yet occupies little floor space. Each spindle offers variable speeds up to 1,000rpm, and smart NC drives let driven tools synchronize with the C-axis of the spindles, permitting milling and polygon turning.

Designed for high efficiency with low energy consumption, the MS16C’s liquid spindle cooling permits high loads and speeds without excessive heat generation, contributing to excellent thermal stability. The X-axis slides provide high dynamic stiffness with steel-on-steel, matched box type guideways, and the Z-axis slides are quill-type with hydrostatic bushings. The five form tool slides work in the X-axis and feature Index’s W-grooves for easy adjustments of the tools.

Backworking is accomplished with a Z-axis synchronized spindle. Up to three backworking tools may be used, plus a cut-off tool, providing even more machining in a single rapid cycle. Other features of the machine include spindle-integrated bar feeding unit and integrated chip conveyor.

Offering applications in the medical technology field, as well as other industries, the MC165C performs all operations expected of turning centers, including turning, drilling, milling, polygon turning, hobbing, tooth milling, deep-hole drilling, and slotting.
