Optical fiber with aperture angle of up to 120°
An expanded portfolio of lead-free Puravis step index fibers for illumination applications now includes the GOF120. Designed for medical endoscopy, the glass fiber achieves an aperture angle of up to 120°.
Similar to GOF70 and GOF85, the GOF120 fiber improves blue light and near-ultraviolet transmission, making them suitable for applications such as fluorescence diagnostics.
A special glass formula features an improved resistance class, ensuring all Puravis fibers offer greater long-term stability so fibers can be subjected to repeated cleaning and autoclaving without impairing the quality of light transmission.
Did you know? Schott’s production process for lead-free Puravis glass fibers does not use arsenic or antimony. Puravis fibers meet RoHS regulation requirements, and once RoHS product exemptions expire, the fibers will continue to satisfy RoHS mandates.

Expanded sizes of drive cables
High-speed rotation, stainless steel, miniature-drive cables for medical device and industrial applications requiring diameters less than 0.33" are now available. The Asahi Drive Cable is a multi-layer, multi-filar, stranded flexible shaft with high bi-directional torque properties and minimal backlash or lag.
The layers and size of wires, along with the way in which the wires are processed, may be customized to the required flexibility, torque force, and rotation speed. Secondary operations for the drive cable include laser welding, soldering, crimping hypotubes, cutters, micro-machined parts, and housings; extrusion, heat-shrink, dip, spray PTFE, ETFE, PU, PE, and FEP. Centerless grinding of the distal end for multi-segmented flexibility, rotary swaging for torsional rigidity, and augering the drive cable with a stainless wire for additional cutting and aspirating capability are also possible.

Cup seals for portable oxygen concentrators
Rulon cup seals, vital components of the compressor in portable oxygen concentrators (POC), serve a dual purpose. It works as a bearing to optimize piston movement up and down the cylinder wall. And second, it prevents air from escaping the chamber while it is being compressed by the piston movement. Because of its very low friction, low heat, low noise, long wear life, and low maintenance, the Rulon material is the choice for this application.
Saint-Gobain Seals’ engineering and manufacturing teams are able to provide standard or customized solutions with hundreds of compositions available.
