Implanting Success

Vertical CNC Lathe
The VT-650 vertical CNC lathe offers a maximum cutting diameter of 31.44" while the 1,500rpm (optional 2,000rpm) spindle drive is designed for high productivity, high-accuracy machining, and integration into factory automation systems.

The VT-650 lathe accommodates work to a maximum diameter of 31.50", maximum length of 29.53", and has X and Z feed strokes of 16.89" and 31.04". Rapid feeds (X, Z) of 788ipm/630ipm permits quick positioning of the tools.

The machine comes with Hwacheon’s Lathe Tool Load Detection System software, which constantly detects and diagnoses the tool load during machining to reduce tool wear and prevent damage, optimizing tool life.

VT-650 has an integrated 45° angle bed frame to minimize heat distortion and absorb vibration to ensure a high degree of precision at hard turning.

The VT-650 integrated spindle provides powerful chucking for stable, precise machining. A geared drive system allows for high-torque turning at low speed as well as high-speed turning. Designs of the transmission and the spindle are separate, so heat and the vibration generated from the transmission does not interfere with the spindle motor.

Tooling System Enhancements
Recent enhancements to the Dual Collet Chuck line and PRECI-FLEX system highlight the company’s recent advancements in its range of tooling systems.

As an enhancement to the Dual Collet Chuck line is the expanded applicability of the chucks to cover all of the industry’s major brands of CNC turning machines. With the expansion, the line moves toward becoming a standard product, which will allow more shops to benefit from the product’s ability to maximize tool turret capacity. The chucks double the capacity of individual turret positions to not only increase a machine’s tool storage capacity, but to expand its tooling versatility for different workpieces and help reduce job set up times.

PRECI-FLEX is the first tooling system on the market with a single-base holder and multiple tooling adapters that utilizes the ER collet pocket, making lathe-tooling changeovers quick, accurate, and cost-effective. The product’s compact design ensures maximum torque transmission and rigidity, resulting in increased machining accuracy and improved productivity. Additionally, the modular system’s conical and flat face planar interface allows the use of either an adapter or a standard ER collet, and enables collets, end mill holders, expanding collet chucks, and shrink-fit tooling to be mounted on a single-base holder.

High-Speed, Performance, Collet Chuck

A new, EBP 5672 collet chuck for high-precision machining combines the accuracy of shrink-fit and hydraulic chucks with the flexibility of a collet chuck for reduced runout, increased torque capabilities, and greater productivity. Designed to maximize clamping forces by distributing it equally across the full length of the collet, the EPB 5672 minimizes tool runout in high-performance, high-speed applications. The combination of a strong, trapezoidal thread nut and high-precision grind of the collet nut and body, ensure the tool is holding pressure and allows the collet to seat firmly and securely within its pocket.

The EBP 5672 design significantly increases rigidity and lowers tool runout. In tool length three times OD (3xD), the EPB 5672 reduces runout to a maximum of only 3µ, a 40% reduction compared with standard type ER collet chucks.

Universal Turning Machine
The INDEX IT600 65mm universal turning machine provides a highly cost-effective solution for machining simple to complex workpieces, from small to medium batch sizes. Simultaneous machining by two turrets, upper and lower, combined with high rigidity and high torque spindle drive, result in high productivity machining.

An open work area and the vertical machine bed offer extremely good ergonomics and permit fast setup of the machine for turning parts up to 600mm long and 380mm diameter. Users can expect excellent cutting performance with a 65mm spindle with high torque to 352Nm and speeds to 4,000rpm.

Tool turret 1, the upper turret, includes a 14-station VDI30 tool complement with up to seven of the tools driven. For highly productive complete machining, the turret has an additional CNC indexing axis (A-axis) to assure concentricity of the tailstock center with the workpiece.

The optional multifunction 10-station turret, for shaft and internal machining of holes to 330mm, includes a NC tailstock function and mounts horizontally in the lower position. The X-axis of the tool turret also facilitates the tool setup.

The IT600 is available with a wide range of handling capabilities, including an integrated receiving tray to an external loading gantry, depending on part geometry and batch size. Shafts to 1,500mm in length and 65mm diameter and flange-type parts to 120mm diameter and 70mm in length can be handled automatically with an integrated receiving tray. The IT600 may also be gantry-loaded.

Forming Tap
MultiTAP-Form is a high-performance forming tap designed to deliver exceptional performance increases in a wide range of materials. The design of MultiTAP-Form is for the production of threads within both 2B and 3B classes of fit, eliminating the guesswork of calculating H-limits. MultiTAP-Form features a geometric design, a proprietary grade of high speed steel (HSS-E), and is TiN-coated for long life and versatility. A short chamfer lead of 1.5 to 2 pitch is ideal for bottom tapping, and lubrication grooves allow coolant flow-to-form action for holes requiring long thread length.

All MultiTAP-Form Taps are made with Emuge’s long shanks, which are DIN length, designed for extra reach. Tap sizes include a range for UNC or UNF threads.

Range of Workholding Devices
Kurt’s SideWinder Vise provides vertical workholding for second operation machining in the same setup by easily mounting to the back of all Kurt industry standard 6" vises. The SideWinder vise is for all types of machining operations. Features include integral bracket with stabilization feature allowing mounting to the machine table on the movable end of the vise, and a workstop to allow vertical positioning of the part. The elevated position allows for longer reach machining that does not interfere with the operating envelope of the host vise. The Pull Type HD690 vise line is now available in standard and reverse jaw models and in manual and hydraulic versions. These vises feature a full 9" jaw opening, a wide stationary jaw, a taller body that produces less deflection, and a quick-change movable jaw. All models feature the Kurt Anglock design, which prevents parts from lifting upwards under heavy clamping loads.

Small machining center users will find Kurt's Model 3400 Versatile Lock vise line is a great new way to add versatility, accuracy, and capacity to their operations. With a full 6" jaw opening, these Kurt vises have 0.0005" clamping repeatability with the enlarged workholding area. Range of Tooling Advancements
Unlike other clamping systems that use heat or hydraulics to expand the material, the REGO-FIX powRgrip (PG) safely uses the mechanical properties of the tool holder material to generate tremendous gripping force with runout below 0.0001". Designed for quick and easy operation, the PG system takes less than 10 seconds to press in a tool or remove it from the holder. Its two-button operation helps users save time as well as reduce operation errors. Furthermore, because the powRgrip System does not require heat, manufacturers can utilize their tools immediately after a tool change.

Another recent addition to the PG family is the secuRgrip, an option for difficult machining applications that require advanced cutting tool security. secuRgrip utilizes PG’s gripping strength in combination with a patented locking key system and threaded cap. secuRgrip is applicable for use with REGO-FIX PG 25 or PG 32 holders in all tapers.
