Tiny spectral sensor suited to handheld medical devices
Spark-VIS spectral sensor delivers high-resolution measurements across the visible wavelength range of 380nm to 700nm. Available in both OEM and stand-alone configurations, the compact, low-cost Spark-VIS is designed for simple absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence measurements. It can be embedded to power next-generation portable and Internet-connected sensing devices in medical diagnostics, biotechnology, and other life science products, and is small enough for integration into point-of-care devices.
Replacing traditional diffraction gratings with a solid-state optical encoder, the unit size and costs are comparable to those of RGB filter diode detectors, but with the ability to take full spectral measurements. Additionally, Spark has good sensitivity for low-light applications, helping to identify samples in very dilute or small doses.
Compatible with Ocean Optics’ Raspberry Pi development kit, the Spark-VIS can be purchased off the shelf for applications engineering. The same spectral sensor can then be purchased in bulk as a component in portable handheld and bedside patient care instruments.

Needle-bonding adhesive
The 1405-M-UR-SC medical device adhesive is LED-curable, facilitating fast cures at 385nm and 405nm wavelengths. With 150cP viscosity, it is suitable for tight-tolerance needle-bonding applications.
Encompass technology incorporates Dymax’s See-Cure color change and Ultra-Red fluorescing technologies with LED-curing capabilities.
Uncured, the adhesive is blue for easy verification of placement. With sufficient exposure to UV light, the blue transitions to colorless, providing visual confirmation that the adhesive is fully cured.
After cure, 1405-M-UR-SC fluoresces bright red under low-intensity black light (365nm), contrasting on plastics that naturally fluoresce blue (such as PVC). This allows manufacturers to incorporate automated or manual quality inspection to verify complete and accurate placement of the adhesive after cure.
