ANCA’s FX Linear series – the FX3, FX5, and FX7 – is a space-saving line of machines for tools up to 12mm diameter that offers grinding capabilities for tools up to 200mm diameter. Maximum wheel diameter is 8".
ANCA Motion designed and built the ANCA LinX linear motors – fully sealed and impervious to the effects of grinding contamination – for a lifetime of operation in harsh grinding environments.LinX linear motors provide axis motion in the X- and Y-axis. The vertical Z-axis uses a preloaded ball screw to move the grinding head. Coupled with linear scales, the linear motors provide high levels of machine precision and performance. The linear motors avoid issues with ball screw wear, loss of preload, or rigidity, and permit smoother axis motion while eliminating backlash.
Linear scales provide consistent accuracy and are impervious to the effects of temperature variations. With no mechanical moving parts, there is no loss of machine accuracy due to wear. Higher axis speed and acceleration allow reduced cycle times. LinX motors provide a speed of 50mpm. No additional load is placed on machine axis guidance due to the magnetic attraction in the scales.
While compact by design, the series offers large working envelopes with the grinding wheel positioned on the C-axis centerline, reducing the effects of temperature on machine elements. These advantages, coupled with the benefits of the polymer-concrete base, result in a thermally stable and rigid machine.
The latest-generation AMD5x control system supports machine operation while the ANCA CNC Pad operator panel is a full touchscreen. This design offers Windows 8 functionality such as multi-touch and zoom. The screen layout is intuitive and configured to the machine’s options. A handheld pendant gives the operator improved access to the machine during setup.
The FX3 Linear is an entry-level machine that provides companies an affordable first step into CNC tool and cutter grinding. The FX5 Linear offers an automated two-wheel changer for increased range of available wheels and tool types. The FX7 Linear is designed for manufacturing and resharpening.
FX machines address 3 key areas:
Accuracy
- Linear motors & glass scales
- Compact machine with reduced axis movements
- Thermally stable design
- Wheel on C-axis pivot point results in reduced axis motion suited to ball nose grinding
- Automation inside machine area reduces thermal change when loading tools
- ANCAcrete polymer base for thermal stability
Reliability
- Hydraulics
- Industrial-grade electronics
- Fewer moving parts with linear motors
- EtherCAT reliability
Performance
- Increased axis speeds
- Reduced axis movements result in less non-productive machine movement
- High performance CNC and EtherCAT communication reduces processing dwells
- Rigid machine design maximizes spindle performance
