Available Orthotics CAD/CAM Software
New versions of Delcam’s OrthoModel and OrthoMill software for the design and manufacture of custom orthotic insoles are available. The main advantage of the Delcam software is that it allows faster manufacturing of all types of orthotics, enabling the patient to quickly benefit from the devices. It is easier to adjust the computer data, rather than regularly recasting designs from the patient’s foot. The scanner captures data – directly from the patient’s foot – in weight-on, weight-off, or semi-weight-bearing modes, and can scan casts or foam-box impressions. The scan data can then be sent to the laboratory that will manufacture the orthotic, along with a prescription, eliminating the costs and time delays associated with delivering casts or foam boxes around the country or even internationally. delcam-healthcare.com
Recycling Initiative
As part of its global environmental policy, Seco Tools has established a new recycling initiative where it offers customers the option of selling their used cemented carbide back to Seco. With Seco taking the lead on purchasing, collecting, and dealing with the used carbide, it becomes easier for their customers to be part of a recycling effort. By 2014, Seco will recycle 50% of the carbide inserts it sells. According to Seco engineers, when an operator replaces a carbide insert, typically less than 5% of the tool is actually worn away, leaving 95% of the carbide intact and capable of being recycled. Environmental gains made from using recycled products instead of virgin material include about 35% less energy usage and a 40% reduction in carbon emissions. secotools.com
