Developed in response to the ever-increasing demand for 5-axis parts, coupled with the use of new alloys and non-traditional materials, is the C 30 U 5-axis machining center from Hermle. C 30 U utilizes Hermle's gantry design in combination with a 630mm diameter tilting rotary table capable of simultaneous machining of workpieces up to 800mm. For increased production of smaller sized parts, the C 30 U can be equipped with a 280mm diameter rotary table mounted on the tilting trunnion-type A-axis.
Standard spindle speed of 10,000rpm, with optional 18,000rpm, 28,000rpm, and 40,000rpm speeds, extends the range of capabilities from high torque, hard metal operations to high-speed machining of complex parts. Axis travels are 650mm, 600mm, and 500mm in the X-, Y-, and Z-axis, respectively, and 32 tool pockets are standard.
A range of other options can be incorporated to suit specific applications or production systems. Alternate clamping systems, including DK 50 or HSK A 100, can be integrated into the rotary tables; workholding can be accomplished through T-slots, zero-point clamping, palletizing, or other means; and a variety coolant options and filtering systems are available.
For manufacturing cells or fully-automated operation, the C 30 U can be equipped with Hermle's PW 160 or PW 800 pallet changers. Machines equipped with Hermle's pallet changer can also make use of the new pallet storage system, which contains up to 15 pallet pockets – expandable to 45 pockets – each capable of a maximum weight of 750kg.
