American Medical Instruments Holdings Inc. (AMIH) has acquired Point Technologies, Inc., a global component manufacturing company that serves the biotech, medical device and semiconductor industries.
Point Technologies will become AMIH's contract manufacturing division, with special focus on large, medium and small finished medical device manufacturers. It will take over resources of Manan Medical Products, Medical Device Technologies and American Medical Instruments.
The company presently manufactures critical components and sub-components for medical device development companies using its competencies in precision wire and tube micromachining, burr-free cutting and electrochemical pointing and plating technologies for small diameter wire and tubing. By being acquired and taking over additional resources, Point Technologies will add device assembly, plastic injection molding, laser welding, NiTi heat setting, final packaging and more to its offerings.
Following on its purchase of a cluster of four companies located in Florida and New Jersey, Paragon Medical, a single source, turnkey supplier of surgical instrumentation, implantable components and delivery systems to the worldwide medical device marketplace with concentration in hip, knee, spine, trauma and sports medicine, has entered into an agreement to purchase the Smithfield, Utah production facility of DePuy Mitek, a Johnson & Johnson Company.
The 32,000 square foot Smithfield facility produces both instruments and implantable components that support applications in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. It also provides prototyping and quick reaction services.
The previous acquisitions were Mark Machine Inc. and Ortho- Craft, Inc., and their affiliate companies, Ortho-Precision and Osteomac. Mark Machine and Osteomac will retain their corporate identities while Ortho- Craft and Ortho-Precision will be folded into Mark Machine.
This cluster of companies has a diverse set of capabilities in the manufacture of close tolerance, complex orthopedic instruments and medical devices, all of which will compliment core competencies already at Paragon.
Conshohocken, PA's VIASYS Healthcare Inc. has acquired Intermed Precision Ltd. of Gort, County Galway, in the Republic of Ireland. For its part, VIASYS is a global market leader in healthcare technology, made up of many well-established companies specializing in developing manufacturing, marketing, and servicing high-technology medical devices that are used in respiratory care, neurology, vascular medicine, critical care, and the medical and surgical product markets.
Intermed Precision is an ISO 13488 registered developer and supplier of orthopedic instruments, implants, and micro-machined components used in minimally invasive surgical devices. It offers a wide range of services including design, prototyping, regulatory assistance, precision machining of metals and plastics, surface treatments and assembly.
