Tooling U has released a new series of training classes for first-time supervisors. The new set of classes, "Supervisor Essentials," includes training topics such as effective communication, leadership principles, performance management, conflict resolution, and basic cost accounting. Unlike traditional "soft skills" training, Tooling U's new supervisor training is tailored specifically to a manufacturing audience.
A ccording to Chad Schron, vice president of Tooling U, "We knew that we had to make sure this training fit in the rest of our catalog, which is very technical and tailored to the shopfloor.
Any soft skills training out there was noticeably "white collar," so we consciously included shop-specific visuals and examples in the content." Tooling U's on-line classes are packaged together into various competencies, or job-specific training sequences.
According to Greg Herlevi, director of content for Tooling U, the supervisory training fulfills a broad need in their catalog.
"Based on what we heard from our customers, a number of new supervisors are promoted from shopfloor positions. They have the technical skills, but they need a solid overview of the softer skills. We designed these classes with that dynamic in mind," Herlevi concludes.
