SCHUNK Inc. introduces the new AGE-S compliance unit, to overcome challenges in difficult pick-and-place applications. This new unit offers compensation beyond the positioning accuracy of the robot for medium and heavy load application. In addition, the AGE-S unit offers increased precision on "pick and place" applications of workpieces on levels with various heights in combination with the compensation of horizontal tolerances. This combination of three compensation directions (X, Y and Z) in one unit minimizes the size and the weight of the unit compared to conventional solutions.
The unit resists bending movements and complies to workpiece positions, minimizing assembly and unloading forces. This gives added protection to the robot and the assembly line. Easy and fast set-up of tooling and programmed pick-points are possible since positioning errors are compensated. Compensation ranges of ±12 mm (X- and Y-direction) and ±14 mm (Z-direction) are standard. Furthermore, the unit may be fixed rigidly via an integrated pneumatic locking device during a handling operation in X and Y as well as in the Z-direction. Sturdy guides with stability characteristics allow payloads from 5.5 kg (12 lbs.) up to 100 kg (220 lbs.). The flanges of the compensation unit are standardized in accordance with DIN 9409-1 thus allowing a robot arm to be directly mounted to the unit.
