Carlsbad, California – Foundry Medical Innovations is the first of its kind in San Diego County to combine two of the biggest booms in healthcare, the decade-long expansion of medical and diagnostic device service providers, with the rapid trending of startup incubators. Foundry’s opening in Carlsbad brings a commitment to promote medical and diagnostic device development through innovation, incubation, and collaboration.
After John Zeis sold his successful medical product development company to expand his service offerings, he and Paul DiPerna, founder and former Chief Technology Officer of Tandem Diabetes Care, came together to brainstorm how best to serve the local community and promote growth within these two thriving San Diego industries. Zeis carries with him his expertise in diagnostic product engineering and company operations. He teams with DiPerna, who brings his medical device engineering skills and value as a vetted leader, having successfully brought Tandem from start-up to a publicly traded company.
Foundry officially launched last month, providing comprehensive medical and diagnostic device development including engineering, regulatory support, clinical trial organization and execution, and complete transfer to manufacturing. The headquarters also houses an incubator that serves the local startup community by incorporating shared workspace, access to technical engineering talent, business, and marketing plan support, and vital connection to the venture capital community.
"Foundry Medical Innovations is fortunate enough to be on the ground floor of cutting edge medical technology and we want to help spur this growth where we can," says Paul DiPerna, president of the Systems Engineering and Incubation Business at Foundry Medical Innovations. This key move is highly strategic because in addition to serving mid to large corporations internationally, Foundry will be leveraging and increasing San Diego's stronghold in the fast growing medical device, diagnostics, and biotech communities. Foundry is proud to accomplish this strategic vision by encouraging startup innovation locally and globally as a foundation for expertise, guidance, and support beyond monetary resources.
