Gundrilling flexibility
UNE6 Series small-diameter gundrilling machines drill deep holes in demanding materials, including high-strength titanium and surgical-grade stainless steel, achieving superior concentricity through tool and workpiece counter rotation.
At IMTS 2022, UNISIG will highlight medical production on the UNE6-2i featuring two independent high-speed spindles for production of 10" or 30" maximum part length and available integrated automation onboard. The machine accurately drills hole diameters from 0.03" to 0.25" (0.8mm to 6mm) and depth-to-diameter ratios from 20:1 to more than 100:1 in workpieces up to 11 lb (5kg).
With 28,000rpm total drilling speed and a 3,000psi (207bar) flow-based coolant system, the UNE6-2i combines process control with an intuitive smart control interface.

Workholding solution
The MIDACO automatic pallet changer has been updated with a hydraulic docking system that automatically clamps and unclamps fixtures and vises on the pallet, sending them into the machining center without requiring hoses. Whenever new parts are placed on the pallet, the hydraulic docking system locks fixtures or vises into place via the touchscreen control panel on the automatic pallet changer, and the clamping fixtures or vises stay charged on the pallet while in the machining center. When a pallet comes out of the machining center, it locks back into the hydraulic docking station and automatically releases fixtures or vises, allowing quick replacement of parts. Recommended for unattended robot or cobot applications, the hydraulic docking system has a power unit providing 3,000psi at 1gpm; a 2hp, 230/460V three-phase motor; four ports in and out; a quick disconnect system; and automated clamping through the pallet changer control panel.

Tool measurement via barcode ID
Originally designed for tools with radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags embedded in toolholders as the primary data carriers, ToolConnect can now transfer tool measurement data via 2D (presetter) printed barcode tags.
Using a scanner at the machine tool to scan the presetter-generated barcode, ToolConnect reads and processes the data, displays all tool and process information, and automatically updates the offsets to the correct fields in the control; no operator data entry required.
In addition to displaying and verifying tool information on the screen, the system guides the user through each step of the process to further automate and prevent error. User screens can prompt the operator through tasks, such as scan the barcode, confirm the tool information, open the carousel door, insert the tool into the (automatically indexed) position, close the door, and other steps. Offsets won’t be sent to the CNC control until ToolConnect verifies the correct tool is loaded into the machine and each customer-defined step is successfully executed.

Automated coolant delivery system
FullShop automated coolant management systems, which include the FS120 and newer FS40 series, monitor and replenish all CNC machine sumps with optimized top-off ratios before the coolant runs low. The easy-to-install turnkey systems consist of a centralized pumping station, controller, distribution manifolds, and level sensor that drops into the machine tool sump.
Each machine is compatible with a coolant health app enabling users to collect, visualize, and track coolant parameters from a smartphone, tablet, or desktop, offering real-time visual notifications and displaying trends over time. In addition to its compatibility with FullShop systems, the app is available as standalone software.
