Small, high-performing vertical machining center
The VFM-2416, the smallest of the VFM series, features axis travels of 24" x 15.75" x 17.7" (X, Y, Z), with rates of 1,417ipm. The 12,000rpm, 15hp direct-drive 40-taper spindle features rigid tapping and a thermostatically controlled spindle oil cooler. Roller bearing guideways in all three axes provide nearly twice the rigidity of ball bearing ways. A 24-tool, twin-arm, 40-taper automatic tool changer (ATC) is included.
Standard on the machine is 300psi through-the-spindle coolant, with 1,000psi as an option. The Big-Plus dual-contact precision ground spindle offers rigidity, reduced tool runout, and greater cutting capability.
High-resolution optical measurement sensor
The RP1500 Rainbow Probe optical measurement sensor provides high resolution non-contact measurement by analyzing the optical spectrum of reflected light to measure surface height changes. It has a 32mm working distance combined with an axial resolution of 40nm. The RP1500 probe barrel is relatively small and is deployable under program control, making it easy to combine with other measurement sensors on a single metrology system.
The RP1500 is compatible with QVI ZONE3, MeasureMind 3D MultiSensor, and VMS metrology software platforms. ZONE3, QVI’s CAD-based 3D metrology software, features a simple user interface, and its kinematic model simulates the machine, part, fixtures, and measuring sensor, updated in real time. Built-in productivity maximizing tools, integrated GD&T functionality, and visual validation of measurement intent speed the measurement process. Visual representation of the Rainbow Probe scan is provided by plots of color surface maps and deviation whiskers. ZONE3 supports simultaneous use of multiple sensors, making appropriate tools available for complex measurement tasks.

3-flute end mills
The Titan-AX line of 3-flute end mills are for machining a range of materials used in medical and other miniature component industries. Equipped with optimized flute geometries and increased shank diameters for maximum rigidity, coated end mills are engineered for precise, aggressive machining parameters. Material applications for the Titan-AX include Kovar, stainless steel, titanium, Carpenter 49, and other ferrous materials.
The Titan-AX has a 1/4" diameter shank minimizing tool deflection compared to a similar cutting diameter on 1/8" shanks. Reducing deflection from the point of cutting to the collet comes from increasing mass, delivering better part consistency, reduced tool breakage, and improved tool life.
