IntElect All-Electric Injection-Molding

The IntElect all-electric injection-molding machine meets production, noise-reduction, and cleanliness needs of today's medical-industry injection molders. It incorporates synchronous, high-torque, water-cooled, direct drives and does not rely on reduction gears and mechanical- transmission components.

The IntElect allelectric injectionmolding machine meets production, noisereduction, and cleanliness needs of today's medicalindustry injection molders. It incorporates synchronous, hightorque, watercooled, direct drives and does not rely on reduction gears and mechanical transmission components. Directdrive technology means few parts, which reduces maintenance time and costs, and it makes for quiet operation. Being allelectric, the IntElect uses less oil as compared with hydraulic injectionmolding machines. The system also operates cleaner. Cleanliness and accurate screwposition control make the system wellsuited for liquid silicone rubber (LSR) applications. "LSR is catching the eye of more than just specialty molders," comments Bob Lewis, manager of Demag' applications group. "LSR's properties deliver practicality for medical, automotive, electronic, electric, aerospace, and handling applications." LSR is physiologically safe in tempered states, transparent and easy to color, has neutral taste and color, is highly weather resistant, maintains flexibility (from 58 F to 356 F), and displays good rubber mechanical properties. With few machine modifications, LSR runs on any injectionmolding system, even vertical presses. Modifications deal with adding a mixing and dosing system and adjusting the injection unit. "The major change/modification in the injection unit is removing heater bands," explains Lewis. "LSR must be kept at 68 F, rather than hot, to remain in a molten state. It then injects into a hot mold and hardens during the heat time." Other injectionmolding series in Demag's product line include the Extra, Caliber, ELExis, HT, Multi, Newbury, and Praxis.
