Grinding, Milling - One Machine

A new multi-tasking machine is designed for jobs that require alternate grinding and milling in the same setup.

A new multi-tasking machine is designed for jobs that require alternate grinding and milling in the same setup. Mounted in a QP series platform, FVGCII series delivers 12,000rpm spindle speed (optional 15,000rpm) with travels of 31.5" x18.5" x 20.1", and X, Y and Z rapids of 1,180ipm/1,180ipm/787ipm. The table size is 47.2" x 20", and can accept workpieces weighing up to 1,320 lb.

The CT-40, big-plus contact nose type spindle delivers 15hp and enables the machine to a 394ipm feedrate. To address heavy dust accumulating in the work area, Chevalier has reverse-engineered the technology to address this problem: specially designed table and splash guard for collecting grinding swarf and chips, fully enclosed arm type tool change system with automatic door, coolant mist collector, sealed ballscrews, chip washdown system, and an optional heavy-duty overhead vacuum system to collect errant contaminants.

The ATC door, controlled by M code, opens automatically at each milling tool or grinding wheel change, and closes upon completion of the change cycle, effectively protecting the tool magazine from flying chips and grinding dust. The ATC holds 24 milling tools up to maximum 10" long, or eight pieces of 6.5" grinding wheels. As with other Chevalier machines, Meehanite cast iron base and frame have heavy ribbing; 40mm, 10-pitch ballscrews on the X, Y and Z axes are center-mounted with double nuts, that are pretensioned and supported at both ends by angular thrust bearings.

Also on display will be gantry type grinders, gantry-type VMC, and the FBM series horizontal boring and milling machine.
