Award-winning powder metal parts
The Grand Prize winner of the 2017 Powder Metallurgy (PM) Design Excellence Awards Competition, sponsored by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) in the Medical/Dental Category went to ARC Group Worldwide, Longmont, Colorado. The award was for a metal injection molded (MIM) surgical keel punch made for Paragon Medical. The part functions as a broach, removing bone during knee surgery. Made from MIM-17-4 PH stainless steel, the part is molded and sintered to net shape with no additional coining, machining, or post-processing to alter its shape.
Winners were announced at the POWDERMET2017 International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials.
Expanded lead-free initiative
PennEngineering now uses lead-free material for its entire catalog of steel fasteners, eliminating potential environmental issues, underscoring a long-standing role as an environmentally friendly manufacturer, promoting overall sustainability objectives, and providing the marketplace the capability to plan and develop lead-free products and components.
New materials, processes, and tool technologies allowed lead removal without compromising fastener quality and performance. The conversion applies to all current production at PennEngineering manufacturing facilities globally.
