Automation and software solutions
GF Machining Solutions will feature its latest advancements in tooling, automation, and software from System 3R at IMTS 2024. For 24/7 production, System 3R Automation offers scalable automation solutions to shorten lead times and maximize ROI. System 3R’s software solutions give users a quick, precise overview of their entire process chain. Various software solutions ensure information about workpieces, magazine positions, offset values, and NC programs is always readily available.
The company’s software portfolio packages include WorkShopManager, CellManager, EasyCellManager, CellManager Light, and BatchBuilder. For integration of all shop operations, WorkShopManager provides a quick and accurate overview of the complete process chain and management of the entire automation system. CellManager works with up to 12 machines in a cell and supports machines such as milling, sinker and wire EDM, laser, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and cleaning. EasyCell Manager works with up to four machines, supporting milling and laser texturing. EasyCellManager Light is for robotless systems encompassing as many as 12 machines in a cell with machines such as milling, wire and sinker EDM, laser, and CMM. BatchBuilder lets users create job batches to run in their robot cells with various types of milling, sinker and wire EDM, laser, and CMM machines. Key benefits of the software include full process optimization, ease of use, and added scheduling flexibility with process chain monitoring.

New generation tool grinder
At IMTS 2024, Star Cutter Company will unveil its newest generation tool grinder – the FLX. This 5-axis grinder offers high-efficiency carbide tool manufacturing with a compact footprint. For unattended machining, FLX features a broad range of automation capabilities.
The machine flexibility includes an ergonomic design with adjustable features allowing personalized setup to ensure operator comfort. With a grind zone up to 203mm in length and 19.05mm in diameter, the FLX accommodates a wide variety of tool sizes. This breadth of processing is supported by up to 15 wheel changing stations with wheels up to 6” in diameter, and by the Flexium Pro CNC, the newest control platform from NUM, streamlining operations.
The machine can be equipped with modular automation making field implementation easier, while providing optimal part quantity and wheel changing. Using waterfall programming, FLX can produce up to 1,105 tools (3mm to 7mm diameter) before unloading.
FLX is designed to be precise and accurate in controlled and uncontrolled climate conditions. It features reduced warmup time, elimination of redundant chiller systems, and 35mm linear carriages for durable machine movement and longevity.
The FLX has a footprint of 72" x 55" (94.5" with the automation model), and height of 73.3". Machines weigh 7,000 lb (9,000 lb with automation). Other options include a bolt-on tooling rail with T-slot construction, runout minimizer, and a two-wheel changer (for non-automated machines).

Automation for high mix, low volume production
Lyndex-Nikken introduces the EZ-Tend modular CNC machine tending platform designed for high mix, low volume production. The EZ-Tend is an industrial robotic machine tending platform with a compact footprint within the EZ-Automation product line. The EZ-Tend is an off-the-shelf automation platform for first time or entry-level industrial robotic users and experienced professionals wanting ease of use and setup of an industrial robot for machine tending of milling centers and turning centers.
The EZ-Tend employs industrial robots to perform lean machine tending of CNC machines. The core of EZ-Tend’s simplicity lies in pallet changing, enabling the user to standardize on one of three pallet sizes: 6" x 6", 6" x 9", and 9" x 20". This flexibility is achieved through preconfigured drop-down options in the human machine interface (HMI), easily understood for fast setup, eliminating complex robot programming. A non-robot programmer can create a routine using an easy-to-read and understand menu with just one screen to set up a new program.
