Tang-Grip is a tangentially-clamped single-ended parting system featuring very rigid clamping in a tangentially oriented pocket. The TAG inserts for the system enable machining at very high feedrates and provide superior straightness, flatness, and surface finish. The system is recommended for parting large diameter parts and for interrupted cuts. Tang-Grip offers a free, unobstructed chip flow, since there is no upper jaw as in other clamping systems and the combination of tangential clamping and free chip flow results in improved tool and pocket life.
Coatings available on the TAG insertsare SUMO TEC grades, which feature a special post-coating treatment to provide substantially improved tool life and better reliability. The process improves toughness- and chipping-resistance, reduces friction and built-up edge, and increases tool life. A golden-colored flank facilitates wear detection.
A new coating for the insert is the SUMO TEC 830 (IC830), an improved PVD TiAlN coated tough grade with better chip flow. Suitable for milling stainless steel, high temperature alloys, and other alloy steels, SUMO TEC 830 is recommended for interrupted cut and heavy operations.
Another coating is SUMO TEC 808 (IC808), which is a tough sub-micron substrate, improved TiAlN PVD coated grade offering better chip flow. It is designed for machining heat-resistant alloys, austenitic stainless steel, hard alloys, and carbon steel at medium to high cutting speeds – interrupted cut and unfavorable conditions. It offers excellent notch wear and built-up edge resistance.
TAG inserts for the Tang-Grip parting line are available with the familiar J- and C-type chipformers, with neutral and angular frontal cutting edges. The tools are equipped with a user-friendly clamping and extraction device. The Tang-Grip family includes square shank tools, blades, and inserts in 0.079" to 0.250" widths. The blades are in standard sizes that fit Iscar's standard blocks.
