Broaching tooling

Rotary broach tools are available in a range of internal and external shapes and diameters – standards and specials. Multiple external and internal rotary broaching toolholders are offered, including adjustment-free versions.

Punch broaching performs in applications where rotary broaching may not be suitable. Keyways, hexagons, Torx-style six lobes, serrations, splines, and squares are machined using partial-form broach tools and indexing either the tool or the workpiece to reduce cutting pressure. Indexable punch broach holders aid the process and provide high-repeatability on CNC lathes, milling machines, and presses.

Metal chip processing, fluid filtration

Heavy-duty wringers/centrifuges use more than 600x the force of gravity to reclaim up to 98% of coolant and cutting oils from metal chips, reducing haul-away cost and increasing the value of dry chips.

The Guardian coolant recycling system recycles used coolants, reducing waste fluids by 50% to 90%, eliminating concerns about wastewater haul-away liabilities.

Paper bed filters provide long-term solutions for solids filtration, with or without magnetic separation, and are suited to grinding applications. Filtered fluid can be reused or recycled, lowering operational costs.

The Evaled vacuum evaporation and distillation system for treating industrial wastewater operates as a closed-loop system under vacuum.

Deep hole drilling capabilities

Gundrilling, BTA drilling, bottle boring, and skiving/roller burnishing machine advancements will be shown through a collection of workpieces on display at IMTS 2018. In addition, a custom UNX machine will demonstrate depth-to-diameter ratio possibilities with CNC motion control capabilities to produce accurate, off-center, gun-drilled holes.

An expanded line of deep hole drilling and machining centers will complement the existing USC-M series, 4- to 7-axis deep-hole drilling and machining centers.

MIM capabilities

Metal injection molding (MIM) eliminates machining by producing precise, net-shaped parts that usually require no secondary operations. If high tolerances are needed and cannot be MIM molded, 5-axis CNC machining equipment achieves tighter specifications while still being more competitive than complete part machining.

Adaptive post-processing

ICAM’s Adaptive Post-Processing solution eliminates tool path errors while reducing programming time, allowing programmers to design tool paths for the part being cut without regard for what machine will produce it; eliminating part reprogramming if the machine used changes. This results in manufacturing flexibility and the ability to choose the most suitable machine at a given time, getting more productivity out of existing equipment.

Standard solutions to counterboring

TCB series counterboring tool diameters range from 26mm to 59mm (1.02" to 2.32"), and inserts with the –CG style chipbreaker geometry yield consistent chip flow in various materials at a range of cutting depths.

The expanded TCB line incorporates a cartridge design for easy diameter adjustments. It can be adjusted by placing multiple-sized shims between the tool body and cartridge, enabling a single tool body to machine various diameters. Fine diameter adjustments in increments of 0.100mm (0.004") are also possible with thinner shims sold separately.

5-axis workholding system

The CL5 5-axis workholding system consists of a subplate, riser, and top tooling made from a vise or a fixture plate. The subplate transforms a T-slot table into a modular fixturing plate, allowing flexible and easy clamping and locating of other tooling and/or fixtures. Every plate has built-in clamping and locating for risers, allowing for quick and accurate setups. The Quintus quick-change riser allows 5-side part access to remove a part from the machine table. The system combines the riser, quick-change capability, and precise location in one piece. Several versions of fixture plates, vises, and jaws are available.

Non-destructive portable hardness tester

The PHT-6000 series ultrasonic, non-destructive, hand-held hardness tester measures hardness on small, large, flat, round, thin, or thick workpieces and also checks for coating hardness.

The device can test softer metals, such as copper and brass, and hard metals and alloys while adhering to the strict ASTM A1038-10 guidelines for portable hardness testing using Ultrasonic Contact Impedance (UCI) method. The device’s non-destructive feature allows testing on delicate or finely finished surfaces without physical or structural part damage.
