LaserSwiss machining

Windsor, Connecticut – Tsugami/Rem Sales, the exclusive North American importer of Precision Tsugami machine tools, will demonstrate its S206 LaserSwiss machine at the MD&M West show - highlighted in the August 2014 issue of Today's Medical Developments magazine.

This will be the first time the company has demonstrated the Tsugami S206-II with IMG 400LS Laser Cutting System at this show. The LaserSwiss combines 6-axis Swiss machining with laser cutting on one machine, allowing manufacturers to perform Swiss turning and laser cutting operations with one setup. All operations are programmed and driven from the machine’s Fanuc 32i-B control. The nozzle standoff adjustment is NC controlled, and the laser’s frequency, pulse width, focus and power are all adjustable ‘on the fly.’

“This machine is ideal for medical manufacturing,” Tsugami/Rem Sales Vice President Mike Mugno said, “and it’s changing the way small, tubular parts are made. Our customers have replaced two machines with one, eliminated the need for multiple part setups, and significantly reduced part production time.”

Tsugami/Rem Sales will also demonstrate the B0205 5-axis CNC Swiss Turn at the show. The 20 mm 5-axis Swiss Turn is convertible, meaning it can be run as a traditional sliding headstock machine with a guide bushing or as chucker without the guide bushing.

“The chucker conversion option provides distinct advantages,” Mugno said. “It allows operators to machine parts from bar stock, rather than centerless ground stock, and results in shorter remnants. This flexibility reduces manufacturer’s part production costs.” The B0205 has an electronic servo-driven guide bushing and 21 tool positions.
